Turn pictures of text into editable, copyable content with optical character recognition (OCR). Upload a photo, screenshot or scanned document and the tool recognises the text - with support for both English and Urdu - then lets you copy it with one click. The OCR engine runs in your browser using WebAssembly, so your documents remain private and nothing is uploaded.
What OCR can and cannot do
Optical character recognition reads the letters in a picture and turns them into editable text. It shines with clear, printed documents, screenshots, and signs. Handwriting, stylised fonts, low resolution, and heavy backgrounds are much harder, so the cleaner and sharper your image, the more accurate the result will be.
Working with English and Urdu
This tool supports both English and Urdu, so you can pull text out of documents in either language. Pick the correct language before you upload, because the recognition model is tuned per language; choosing the right one makes a noticeable difference to accuracy, especially for Urdu script.
How to improve accuracy
- Photograph documents straight on, not at an angle.
- Make sure the text is in focus and well lit.
- Crop out clutter so only the text remains.
- Higher resolution images almost always read better.
